Pecha Kucha Presentation

Page history last edited by Lin Muilenburg 11 years, 8 months ago

What is this assignment about? You are required to create a multimedia project. Pecha Kucha is one of three options: WebQuest or Digital Story or Pecha Kucha. A Pecha Kucha presentation (20 slides timed to automatically advance every 20 seconds with your live narration).

Why is this a course requirement? Creating a multimedia project will give you the opportunity to delve deeply into one of the many technologies we address in the year-long course Technology in the Classroom. Through this project you will learn a variety of skills such as photo, video, and audio editing, website construction, and recording a screencast tutorial. This presentation format will allow you to create an engaging and fun introductory lesson for a topic. You will have the opportunity to research and analyze subject matter content and then organize it into an effective message. You will have to practice your live presentation skills to successfully narrate a presentation with such a lively pace. Finally, this project will be used as evidence in your ePortfolio that you have met Maryland Teacher Technology Standard 5 in the MAT program.

What does a Pecha Kucha look like?  There are a few excellent models created by MAT alums:

Cameron Leischer, The Holocaust

Taren Parsons, Big Ideas of Math

Can you provide general guidelines to follow?  Sure! Be sure you create 20 slides set to advance automatically every 20 seconds. Try to choose a topic that you would want to get your students excited about. Search for interesting images that communicate your point -- remember that it is more a visual than text-based presentation. Cite all of the images and information you include and include a reference slide at the end. Prepare a script and rehearse it thoroughly so you can focus on the audience and stay in sync with your slide show.  Record your script to add to the slideshow. Check to be sure you include all of the elements in the scoring rubric.

How will this assignment be graded? This assignment will be graded using a scoring rubric that matches the requirements described above.
